About the RYA Essential Navigation & Seamanship Course

The Online RYA Essential Navigation & Seamanship Course provides a fantastic base of knowledge for taking your boat on short coastal passages and to prepare for an I.C.C. assessment.

What's in the Course?

• The basics of navigation, including tidal awareness, charts, almanacs, and the use of electronic aids such as GPS;
• Harbour entry and departure pilotage techniques;
• How to recognise buoyage on charts and on the water;
• Collision regulations;
• Weather sources and information including local apps and websites;
• How to plan a passage;
• Safety equipment to carry and how it should be used.

Course Duration

The course takes around 8 hours in total to complete, but it is structured so you can take it at your own pace. 

Previous Experience

None, we start at the foundation level of all of the key concepts to make sure nothing is missed.

Qualification

On successful completion, you will receive the RYA Essential Navigation & Seamanship Certificate.

The Investment

The online course is $220 AUD.

Access to the course is open for 12-months from completing the registration. If life gets too busy and you need more time, you have an option to pause your course for up to 6-months and then continue when you have more time.
