Some of the fastest ocean racers compete alongside super maxis and ocean racing catamarans, racing yachts and fast sailing cruisers all battling for the Gold Roman Bowl in the annual Round the Island Race. The town of Cowes, yachting capital of England, pulls out all the stops for the Round the Island Race with some fantastic sailing social events, ensuring a great atmosphere from the pre-race party to the post race cruise.
The Round the Island Race 2019 starts and finishes in Cowes on the Isle of Wight in England. Travel to the Isle of Wight is easy on a twenty minute ferry from Southampton which is easily accessible from most areas of the country by road and rail. There is also an international airport at Southampton.
Race training Day – Friday 28th June
Round the Island Race Day – Saturday 29th June
Like most yacht racing events that we participate in, we include yacht race training to bring the crew together and to get the most out of the day.
The Round the Island Race is unique in its sheer scale; on race day there are literally thousands of yachts out there ranging from the smallest laser to sleek maxi racers. It is a spectacle of impressive proportions and even in light winds can never be boring because there is so much expensive floating tupperware to gawp at! For tactical yacht racing and non stop action for the whole duration of the race, this regatta cannot be beaten. Prior sailing experience is not necessary because our experienced and patient professional skipper will coach you and ensure that everyone is confident enough to make a valuable contribution to the crew.
